Apprenticeship Scheme

In conjunction with the CITB, the DSA has developed an Apprenticeship Scheme specifically for Drilling and Sawing operations. The structured training programme is spread over 2 years, and covers all aspects of Drilling and Sawing operations. Successful completion entitles a student to receive a full NVQ Level 2 and a skilled CSCS Card in Drilling & Sawing. CITB grants are available to cover the direct cost of the course.

Several groups of trainees are already undertaking the training programme.

Training

All training and assessment matters relating to drilling and sawing are now dealt with by our Subsidiary Company, DSA Training Ltd., who can be contacted at the same address and telephone number.

The DSA employs an external firm – Training & Assessment Consultants Ltd. – to provide a range of training services, including:-
- Apprenticeship Training
- NVQ Assessment
- Development of Training Plans
- Provision of Training in Specific Areas, i.e. Scaffold Tower, Confined Spaces, etc.

NVQ Assessment

The DSA has, in conjunction with the CITB, developed an NVQ Level 2 specifically in Drilling and Sawing.

The DSA has also set up a scheme whereby Training & Assessment Consultants Ltd. provides our Assessment Centre, acts as our qualified assessor and will arrange for registration of candidates. If you require an NVQ Level 2 for your operatives, contact either the DSA office or Greg Marrison. Now, the only route to a CSCS Card is via an NVQ, but CITB grants and special funding are available for this process.

There may be optional routes whereby experienced workers can obtain an NVQ.

CSCS Cards

In conjunction with the CSCS Scheme Management, the DSA has assisted in the provision of a CSCS Card specifically in Drilling and Sawing. There are currently 3 types of card:-

- Red Trainee (3 year card)
- Blue Experienced Worker (Temporary 12month card)
- Blue Skilled Card

If you require cards for your staff so that they can gain access to site, please contact the DSA Training Ltd. office or Greg Marrison at Training & Assessment Consultants Ltd. who can explain the requirements and qualifications for each card.

Training Plans

CITB grants are available to those members who prepare a detailed Training Plan for their Company. This training covers all business activities, not just drilling and sawing operations. For further details contact Joel Vinsant.

Training Videos

The American Drilling & Sawing Association provides for sale a range of training videos on the individual drilling and sawing techniques. Copies can be obtained via the DSA office.

Induction Training

Training & Assessment Consultants Ltd. can provide an Induction Training Programme for new employees which assists towards an NVQ in Drilling and Sawing.
